Lithium Ion batteries was known to be high powered and heavy duty as compared to its predecessor such as the Nickel Cadmium and the Alkaline Batteries. Well, many were born before the use digital cameras into the market. During the 1990's the alkaline battery was the most used batteries; it is known to provide power to almost any digital or portable device. This is was the proffered choice of many during the said decade. But everything changed during the introduction of digital cameras and mobile phones especially the battery packs used in these devices.
Lithium Ion or Li-ion batteries are the most advanced in many different applications such as mobile devices and the likes. Previously, nickel metal hydride of the NiMh and the nickel cadmium batteries NiCd are the main battery of choice for portable devices. But the lithium ion battery possesses a lot of features that cannot be found in the alkaline, nickel metal hydride and the nickel cadmium batteries. The NiMh, NiCd and the Li-ion are all rechargeable batteries. It should be noted the lithium ion batteries are entirely different from the plain lithium batteries, which are not capable of being recharged. The lithium ion battery is the only one capable of being recharge for almost a hundred cycles.
Lithium Drills
Lithium is considered to be the lightest form of metal with the premier electrochemical potential. Lithium in it pure metallic form is used in the manufacturing and assembling of digital camera and mobile phone batteries.
Recharging lithium ion batteries have many more cycles than the other aforementioned rechargeable batteries. Such can be recharged for about three to five hour max. One benefit of lithium ion batteries is that it is not easy to lose power or discharge. It can even stand for one month fully charged not even inside a gadget. NiMh and NiCd batteries continuously discharge little by little every day even when such are not used. Li-Ion as compared to the other two has lower maintenance. Also, it has no schedule cycling nor memory to maintain its energy.
With all the advantage given above, price can be an issue since it is more expensive than the usual batteries. The charger and the batteries are highly expensive because the manufacturing process that both undergoes is highly complex and intricate. In addition, Li-Ion is manufactured not in extremely big bulks as compared to the NiMh and the NiCd batteries; hence, the price is steep for Li-Ion.
The discovery of lithium batteries way back in 1912, non-rechargeable lithium battery was sold during the 1970's. It was due to Sony's marketing in the 1990's, which made lithium batteries popular. With this, buying lithium batteries is a wise choice since it will last a long time but it should be made sure that the charger is compatible with the batteries in order to make it last. Using Li-Ion will save both money and energy at the long run.
